On 28 November the Security Information Agency (BIA) filed a criminal complaint with the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Sremska Mitrovica against Nikola Kajkić and Dražen Letić, on suspicion of having committed the criminal offence of espionage under Article 315 of the Criminal Code of Serbia.
The statement says that Dražen Letić, a former Ministry of the Interior officer, was arrested on suspicion of selling information to members of the Croatian security services for payment, and of undertaking other activities aimed at destabilising the security of the Republic of Serbia.
“Letić is part of a network of associates made up of several Serbian citizens, which in previous years was set up and used by Nikola Kajkić, born in 1973, a Croatian citizen, an inspector in the Terrorism and Extreme Violence Department of the Vukovar-Srijem Police Directorate and president of the National Police Union of Croatia, to gather intelligence, to recruit people from the region to cooperate with the Croatian judiciary, and to obtain documents that would be misused for foreign-policy purposes, in order to discredit the Republic of Serbia,” BIA said in its statement.
BIA also states that on 13 July this year Letić was arrested in an international police operation as a member of an international organised crime group led by US citizen Michael Doković, whose real name is Iljmija Frljučkić, while attempting to smuggle 600 kilograms of cocaine worth around 18 million euros from Uruguay to Switzerland.
CTO congratulates the members of BIA on yet another successful operation. At this moment, foreign actors are making great efforts and exerting pressure to compromise and destabilise the Republic of Serbia. BIA and the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia stand guard over the homeland as the first line of defence of our state, its integrity and sovereignty. They carry out this difficult work responsibly, as shown by their excellent results, which deserve every praise.
