Today, police work is one of the hardest and most responsible jobs, requiring great courage, dedication and care for the safety of fellow citizens. A shining example of honourable police service is officer Nemanja Pavlović (29), a member of the Belgrade City Police Brigade.
In the early morning of 22 September 2019, in Kralja Aleksandra Obrenovića Street in Mladenovac, there was an attempted armed robbery at the “Pink Panter” fast-food restaurant, which officer Nemanja Pavlović heroically prevented.
At the time of the incident Nemanja was off duty, in plain clothes and unarmed. He had gone into the restaurant to order food. He then returned to his car and heard a woman inside calling for help. He rushed back in and found a man pointing a gun at the cashier, trying to force her to hand over money. Nemanja realised he had to react quickly so that the robber would not injure or even kill someone. He identified himself and shouted “Stop, police!”.
The robber turned towards Nemanja and pointed the gun at him, and at that moment Nemanja, with a quick and skilful move, disarmed him with his bare hands and without any equipment, then immobilised him with an elbow lock.
The officer told the woman to call the police and held the immobilised robber for several minutes until his on-duty colleagues arrived and arrested him. Nemanja then went with his colleagues to the station to give a statement about the incident.
CTO thanks police officer Nemanja Pavlović for his extraordinary bravery, and for the fact that the streets are safer for citizens thanks to him and his colleagues, who believe that their duty and responsibility towards citizens and their safety never ends.
We hope to get in touch with Nemanja soon to present him with a certificate of appreciation for his bravery on behalf of the organisation.
Dragan Pantić, President of CTO.
