For decades, Kosovo and Metohija and the surrounding areas in southern Serbia have been a hotspot for the activities of Albanian and other Islamist extremist terrorist cells.

Serbian security authorities face major challenges in suppressing such cells because of their strong links with terrorist cells around the world.

A few days ago, BIA officers discovered a hidden arsenal of working firearms in the village of Pečeno in the municipality of Preševo, just 300 metres from the Serbian Armed Forces base “Pečeno brdo”.

According to media reports, the camouflaged cache contained two semi-automatic rifles, one M48 military rifle, one modified hunting rifle and one Kalashnikov automatic rifle.

The weapons belonged to terrorists commanded in 2001 by Redžep Aliju, better known as Commander Redža.

CTO thanks BIA and gives its full support for this very successful operation, which has increased security in southern Serbia and curbed further activity of this terrorist cell in our country and in other Balkan countries.

President of the organisation, Dragan Pantić.
