According to the latest statistics published by the Ministry of the Interior, 51 murders were committed in Serbia from the beginning of the year to the end of August, of which a record 92% have been solved.
In the same period last year there were 62 murders, and 70% of the cases were solved.
Such remarkable progress in solving the most serious crimes is incredible, and shows how dedicated the Serbian police are to their work, and how well the investment in the Ministry from the state budget has paid off.
This positive trend continued this month too, as last week three men were arrested on suspicion of beating Robert Romić (41) to death.
The Ministry’s statistics are also positive for crime in general, as well as for individual offences such as theft and robbery.
In the past eight months, 47,324 general crimes were committed in the Republic of Serbia – 7% fewer than last year, when the figure was 50,775.
Perhaps the greatest success this year goes to the Criminal Police Directorate, which, together with other police directorates, seized 3.2 tonnes of narcotics by August – already an incredible 40% more than last year.
CTO thanks the Minister of the Interior Nebojša Stefanović and the Ministry for their hard work and care for citizens. Thanks to their efforts, Serbia is becoming safer and freer day by day.
Dragan Pantić, President of CTO.
